Deepening democracy requires strengthening citizenship, the involvement of civil society and media, institutionalization of political parties, and democratization of the state. This research project aims to assess the perception of political actors (the media, political parties, civil society organizations and individual citizens), their roles and the barriers in the efforts of deepening democracy in Ethiopia. The study applies a convergent mixed method that combines both quantitative and qualitative data to be collected from various target groups mainly in Addis Ababa- the capital city of the country. A total of 900 households participate in a survey questionnaire. In addition, the study employs 10 key informant interviews and 1 Focus Group Discussion to collect data from the media, CSOs and political parties. It applies descriptive, multiple regression and mediation techniques to analyze quantitative data while thematic analysis is employed for qualitative data. The key findings and recommendations of the study are converted into a documentary film as one of dissemination mechanisms.
